TOBY’S TOP TIPS
THE DUO NORMAND
THE ART OF 2 UP TIME TRIALLING

"In an Italian accent"

2 Up Time Trialling is like making love to a beautiful woman.

There is a lot of passion understanding trust and respect.

When it works its fantastic when it doesn’t its sheer hell!

Back to English.

Two up time trials are all about knowing your partner, their strengths and weaknesses.  You don’t have to be able to both ride an hour 25 TT to be matched you can, I would say, be a minute apart. The Duo Normand is once again upon us and this is a course of varying terrain so you might be good on hills and your partner be good on the flat. Obvious to say, if you’re the hill climber nurture your flat road buddy over the climbs so as they can be strong on the flat. It is pointless trying to attack your partner when you think they are weak. It’s the two of you working as a team for best results.

The principal is not to go through unnecessarily if your hammering down a flat road with a tail wind and your partner is happy on the front don’t go through if your going to slow things down. Wait to you feel that slight dip in pace then go through and make your effort COUNT

Like wise if you’re in to a head wind take regular turns at the front don’t do the thirty seconds thing or the 60 revolutions thing its all about the dip in pace. I m certain you all know what I mean and if you don’t please give me a call I’ll explain it.

If you are on a bad day to start with and your buddy is flying let them do what they can till you have ridden yourself in, hopefully you’ll come around may be go through just to give them a little break some times that helps just for them to catch breath.

To summerise The Duo is a great event as are 2up TT’s if it goes right on the day with a well disciplined team its great. Strengths and weaknesses - know your limits.
