08.06.15 Interinsular 25 Mile Time Trial

Sad to say but we got our backsides kicked good and proper by our visitors from Guernsey. The lack of youth development over the years in Jersey was clearly demonstrated with 1st & 2nd overall going to Guernsey Juniors. All you can do is applaud and question how we are going to emulate this. The answer is certainly not to sit on our hands and moan about lack of interest, competition from other sports etc. This is a wake up call and the Velo YDP programme is a start that is just beginning to show some fruit, but a lot more work is needed.

It was great to see Andy Munns taking 1st Vet with Mike Keighrey 3rd and such a huge turnout; one of the largest we have seen for years. Good thinking on Andy Hamon’s part to cut the gap between starts to 30 secs, unfortunate that information didn’t reach a small number of riders who missed their starts. Riders have a right to complain about breakdowns in communication, but not to hurl abuse at the organisers as they are trying to record finishing times. Fortunately the TV cameras were not present at that time!

A big thank you to organiser Andy Hamon, ably assisted by Rob Erskine and all the marshals including Laura & Partner, John Carney, Matt Gambles (hope the wife has forgiven you), Andy Boxall, Paul Clements, Mike Stilwell, Gerry and any I have missed...without you these events don’t take place.
