08.08.10 Jay Morris Mem

I suspect the weather put off quite a lot of riders who saw it raining at 6.00 and stayed in bed. I know of at least 2 who remained in their car as the rest of us gathered at the start. One rider was cursing his decision to start having decided valour was the better part of caution, coming off at the left hand turn in St Martins...hope the scratches are mending Kev. It was a field of high quality that started off and as expected with all the riders starting together for 10 laps of the Hougue Bie circuit there was a steady trickle of riders falling off the back as the faster riders set the pace...yours truly included. Chris Spence made the defining break with Peter Ilton in tow, but sadly Pete couldn’t hold onto him and was reeled back into the pelaton...Chris going on to win in convincing style. Bob Cabot did an excellent job staying with the leading group and finishing fourth (1st Vet) and Jim had the pleasure of my company for all of our 9 laps as we gathered waifs and strays in the form of Mick Heald, John Derrien and Paul Millar; Jim winning the sprint and finishing first lady. Well done to Sam Carney for sticking with the 2nd group, a great performance. Thanks to organiser Toby ably assisted by Rob and marshalls Jerry Crow, Gemma Derrick, Pete Jolley and Nathan Woodland. A good event with the race takings going to charity in memory of Jay.
