Track race 25th March 2007

The loss of an hours sleep was clearly not an obstacle to a lot of our riders who turned up for 30 mins or an hour of fun on the track. Division two went first with a large field of 27 riders looking forward to christening the newly repaired surface. Whilst not perfect it is a huge improvement on last years lumps and bumps and the comments from riders were generally very positive.

Congrats to our own Bob Cabot who broke away in a group of four, in I think the 3^rd or 4^th lap (vision wasa bit blurred at that stage due to extreme pain), and stayed away, beating Mike Harris in a close fought sprint. Further down the field it was group thing with a large number of riders staying together for the whole race with a few stragglers falling out of the back. Mike Mitch was well up in this chasing pack at the end together with Simon Perchard, Jim Davis (1^st lady), Mick Higginson, Paul Lipscombe and even me! Apols if I have missed anyone.

For division one Vince Peron set off on a one man mission to destroy the field of 10 from the start but was reeled in quickly. All was going smoothly until Ali Cann decided to have a lie down, bringing down Dave Jardine as well (hope the road rash is starting to heal guys, look forward to picking the scabs, hours of fun) and sending a number of other riders into the bushes. All continued apart from Ali, but inevitably the field was well split up. Out in front Richard Tanguy continued his battle from last week with Chris Spence; the sprint was a close affair with Rich just losing out to Chris, but these two are putting together a convincing argument for inclusion in the Island Games team. For the rest of our riders the earlier pile up rather spoilt the party but well done to Dave, Jamie B, Jim Garrett and Peter Ilton for sticking at it.
