JCA 25 mile TT Sunday 13th May
Any self respecting duck, let alone cyclist would have stayed in bed this morning. Strong winds and heavy, if intermittent rain made for very unpleasant cycling conditions with slippery roads as well as brakes not functioning efficiently, as Nick le Coq found to his cost. The good news as far as I know is that all the riders who came off, including Chris Spence, Vince Peron (I’m now told by a reliable source that Vince didn’t come off), Chris Seviour, Mike Keighrey, Jo Gagnerie and Nick are all OK....lovely bit of leg Jo, quite made my day!
Having driven the course whilst the race was underway and found my path barred by countless tractors; all those who got stuck behind these slow moving behemoths have my sympathy...sadly such obstacles are beyond the organisers control. Excellent performance by Andy Munns once again proving that age is no barrier to good performance. Also good to see Dave Jardine, Mike Mitch, Doc Buist and Stephen King up there in the top 10, well done guys. This time Helen got the better of Jim but I’m sure this is only a temporary aberration, good to see Nicki Bardin and Jo Gagnerie battling it out for the ladies.
This race is always an organisers nightmare trying to ensure the full compliment of marshals are in place. Apologies to the first few riders who found marshals missing at the top of L’Etacq and at the right turn in to St Marys on the way back. A big thank you to the following for getting very wet ensuring you got through the twists and turns safely...Terry Noel, Mike Stilwell, Tony Pushman, Pete Mitchell, Ian Williams, Jamie Barker, Andy Hamon, Russ Crowder, Mark le Turgeon, Sean Bosio, Nick le Coqs dad (or was he Jo’s), Neil, and me.
