07.10 Kierin

Numbers may have been on the small side, but it was a great evenings racing. The hors d’oevre (excuse spelling if wrong) was served up by the youngsters. Stephen Haley, Karl Laugeard & Sam Carney had a great race over 3 laps of the track with Stephen out sprinting Sam at the end and Karl putting in a great effort behind the two leaders. Following this they completed a 2 lap Kierin race starting at 14mph gradually increasing to 18 mph before the Durney bike (Mick Higginson) pulled off on the back straight. With all 3 riders in the small ring Sam took the sprint followed by Karl and Stephen not far behind in third. 

Moving onto the main event the 12 competitors split into 2 groups of six with Mick acting as Durney once again (even making motorbike noises). Over 3 laps the speed gradually increased from 16 up to 20 before Mick pulled off on the back straight. Dave jardine shot off like a rocket with no one sticking with him...the first 3 going through to the final. The second heat saw Jim Garrett emulate Daves burst of speed to win convincingly. The last 3 in each group then battled it out for the minor palces with Andy Ilton putting in a great sprint to cross the line first. The final was a close fought contest with Sean Twohig miraculously transformed into Richard Tanguy giving Jim & Dave something to worry about. The close sprint saw Dave take the honours with Jim half a bike length behind and Rich in Third. 

A good event, shame more didn’t take part. Thanks to Harvey for keeping control and to all who marshalled and a big pat on the back to our very own durney...Mick Higginson.
