St Ouen-St John ’Athletes’ 10m TT - 31 July 2007

A great event with a fantastic cast of Athletes!  Flashbacks to the 50’s a-plenty with riders donning their standard road bikes in a race of truth ’a la Francesco Moser style’ in the eagerly awaited Athletes time trial.

Strangely, the riders faced a bizzarre headwind the whole way round the course (according to some anyway..) considering it had been blowing the other way for a week! Still, some good rides given the tough hardman (or woman) nature of the course and some heroic stories of 100 rpm cadences up the ’Col De Greve’ added to a warm and windy evening. (I think the rider in question may have been in the 39x21 though!).

Top honour going to Ali Caan with a time of 26 mins and 20 seconds narrowly enging out CCC’s Tom Perchard by 5 seconds and a good ride for Peter Ilton (The Iltonator!) in Bronze with a ride of 26 mins and 40 seconds.

The ladies victory went to Jo Gagnerie with only half a minute seperating her from Nikki Bardin.  Well done both of you.  Good rides also coming in the shape of Bob Cabot, Nick Le Cocq, Paul Lipscombe and Mick Higginson.

Not so sure about this ’Athletes TT’ tag though, there wasnt much ’athletisism’ about the fluid intake shortly after the event - maybe we should move the finishes of our races further from the Pub entrance! Still, the smell of beer got them all to the finish a bit faster!
