08.05 Jay Morris Memorial Hougue Bie

The Jay Morris Memorial had a good turnout and it was impressive seeing 42 riders on the line at the start.  The race was run as a scratch race with all riders setting out at the same time.  This results in a number of the rider’s tactics being along the lines of, hold on for as long as possible and hope you are dropped at the same time as others are so you have someone to ride / race with.

In the lead group it was surprising to a number of us how many of the 42 starters stayed with the lead group which remained together until Chris and Adam made a run for freedom in what might have been the eigth lap.  Whether it is a reflection of the course being fairly forgiving, the pace not being quite as frantic or the strength of the field improving, is a topic that could perhaps be debated at some length.

Fantastic to see 4 ladies out and a few new faces including John Carney (Sam’s dad) and good to see the competition throughout the field. 

Race proceeds were donated to a charity of the Morris family’s choice in memory of Jay Morris.
